ABOUT THE KAKU

A historic machiya that has stood in the ancient city of Nara for over 100 years was reborn as “THE KAKU” on January 1, 2025.

Here the classical beauty of Japan is reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility: the tea room and the open-air bath were built by craftsmen using traditional techniques.

With “Kin Suite – 金 – “, which includes an open-air bath, and “Gin Suite – 銀 – “, a detached villa, THE KAKU is a private residence of approximately 250 sqm in the heart of Naramachi — the Kin Suite (approx. 200 sqm) and the Gin Suite (approx. 50 sqm), reserved entirely for you. Nara Park and Kofuku-ji Temple are a three-minute walk away.

This exclusive suite consists of two separate living rooms and three bedrooms. The dining room is equipped with a full kitchen, a traditional tea room, and a handcrafted solid wood dining table.
A fitness room is available to guests of the Kin Suite and to exclusive-use (whole-house) stays; it is not available on Gin Suite-only stays. Dogs and cats are welcome in both the Kin Suite and the Gin Suite.
